On his personal values, in Johnny Hubbards autobiography "The penalty king" you can read the following statement that his background had an impact on his life:
"Although I was raised in a system of segregation, I was raised to respect black people, so when I arrived in Glasgow, I treated people alike, whether Catholic or Protestant. I think it becomes a question of personal values and I was brought up to respect everyone. By giving that respect, I have also received it from others. It is a good way to live".
